Mountaindale East Day Camp is located at the Mountaindale Program Center in North Plains, Oregon, a 30 minute drive from downtown Portland.  Mountaindale East serves all girls that wish to attend.  The camp can accommodates over 300 campers, Program Aides, Tag-a-longs and boys.  And is staffed by wonderful camp volunteers.

Camp runs Monday thru Friday from 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. during the week of June 18 - 22, 2012.  There is an Overnight for girls entering the 4th grade or higher in the Fall of 2012.  This overnight begins as soon as the buses leave on  June 21, 2012

There is always the slight chance that camp would need to be canceled for an emergency, such as a nearby forest fire.  This website will state the decision to close camp, as early as possible, on the General Information page  Please don't be worried though, this is an extremely unlikely situation!

Every person is a Girl Scout during the week of camp, and it is asked that you adhere to the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law.

What to Expect

 Daisies (entering Kindergarten  and 1st grade in the Fall of 2012)

• Girls are placed in units of approximately 10 Daisies

• Each unit  has at least two adult Leaders and at least two Program Aides

• Each unit learns basic camp activities

• Daily activities are varied and include

• singing

• arts and crafts

• cooking

• nature walks

• games

Brownies (entering 2nd and 3rd grade in Fall 2012)

• Girls are placed in units of approximately 12-14 Brownies

• Each unit has two adult Leaders and at least two Program Aides

• Each unit works on Badge activities together

• Daily activities are varied and include

  • singing

  • arts and crafts

  • cooking

  • nature walks

  • games

Juniors (entering 4th and 5th grade in Fall 2012)

• Girls are placed in units of  approximately 14-16 Juniors

• Each unit has two adult Leader and at least two Program Aides

• Each unit works together on activities towards Badges

• Daily activities are varied and include

  • singing

  • arts and crafts

  • cooking

  • nature walks

  • games

Outdoor Skills Unit (entering 6th grade in the Fall of 2012)

• This unit prepares the girls for the PAIT Unit

What to Bring

Every Day -

• Day pack or small backpack

• Jacket or raincoat

• Lunch with a drink (no glass containers) in a large zip-lock bag.  Lunches will be stored at camp in a cooler with ice.  Please do not send lunches in a hard plastic/metal lunchbox as they are very bulky.

• Sunscreen.  This will be turned into the nurse's station on Monday and applied every morning (not to be shared with other campers).  Please clearly label any bottles or tubes so that the nurse or attending adults know it is okay for your camper to use!  Reapplication (as needed) is always an option!

• Bug Repellant.  This will also be turned into the nurse's station on Monday and applied every morning (not to be shared with other campers).  Please clearly label any bottles or tubes so that the nurse or attending adults know it is okay for your camper to use!  Reapplication (as needed) is always an option!

Thursday Overnight -Campers entering 4th grade and up only!  Do not over pack, it takes up too much room on the bus and is too hard to carry.  Everything should fit into one large garbage bag and one backpack!

• Sleeping bag *

• Small pillow *

• Lightweight jacket or sweater *

• Flashlight

• Pajamas (top and bottoms) or suitable sleep attire

• Toiletries and personal items

• Change of clothes for Friday morning

• No electronics **

* Sleeping bag, pillow and jacket/sweater should be placed in a large garbage bag with

            the camper's real name (first and last) marked on the outside of the bag.
** Electronics detract from the camp experiences of bonding,companionship and

           friend-making and should be left at home.  Mountaindale East Day Camp and Girl

           Scouts is not responsible for these items if they are lost, stolen or damaged.
                                                                                                                                          

What to Wear

• Camp Shirt - On the first day of camp, you will receive your camp t-shirt.  Please wear it everyday so that we know you are a part of the Mountaindale East campers.

• Long Pants or Shorts - Note that shorts are allowed at camp, however, there is poison oak and stinging nettles in the woods and surrounding areas of the campgrounds.  As a precaution, you should strongly consider wearing long pants or jeans.  If the weather is warm, a pair of lightweight cotton pants will keep you protected from nettles and poison oak, as well as prevent sunburn.  If you do wear shorts to camp for the day, you Mustbring long pants in your back pack or day pack to change into if the need arises!

• Sturdy, close-toe shoes - Campers will be experiencing the beauty of the woods and campground on hikes and will be spending a considerable amount of the day outdoors.  To keep your toes safe, and your feet protected, you will need to wear the proper footwear.  Sturdy tennis shoes or hiking boots are required.  If you do not have proper shoes, you can not participate in camp, and your parent/guardian will be contacted.

• Socks - It is recommended to wear at least an ankle length sock when hiking in the woods.  This length of sock keeps your feet comfortable while hiking and running as well as offering more protection against mosquito stings and tick bites.

• Jacket/Sweatshirt/Sweater - Even if it's summer, the early mornings combined with higher elevation and wooded areas mean that the temperature can be quite cool.  Bring a jacket or sweatshirt/sweater with you every day, and especially for the overnight camp.  Please remember to label the article with your first and last name in the event that you misplace it during the day.

• Raingear - We all hope for the lovely summer weather of the North West, however, since we all have experience with weather in the North West, it is understood that a day may start or turn rainy.  Please bring a raincoat.  Being prepared ahead of time will ensure a warm, dry, and fun experience even if the day turns wet.
